UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local 1252 members at the Town of Harbour Breton public works department recently signed a new three-year contract, retroactive to Jan. 1, 2026, bringing in money and additional quality of life improvements.
Wage gains will see all classification rise by $1 each year across the life of the agreement, as well as an additional $1 premium for each hour members work in a supervisory role.
Along with the base increase, premiums will help members earn more for taking on a greater responsibility, helping close the gap when working with the additional pressures of the role.
Bereavement time was also extended to four days for immediate family and three days for in-law siblings and grandparents.
The extension allows for members to take more paid time away from work when their families need them the most.
A big thank you goes out to the negotiating committee for sticking through negotiations, including George Drake, who can be seen above signing the agreement.
