UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local 1252 members at Labrador Marine Inc. in Lewisporte, N.L. have come to terms on a new six-year contract bringing in massive monetary benefits.
Workers will receive a 15 per cent wage increase in year one, retroactive to April 1, followed by 5 per cent in year 2 and a subsequent 2 per cent each year over the next four; as well as another 1 per cent through the consumer price index.
Other monetary gains included $500 towards the entertainment fund, $300 in boot allowance and a clothing catalog for members to order in January of each year.
Additionally, both Truth and Reconciliation Day and Remembrance Day were added to the list of statutory holidays.
The company now will also now pay for employee training including First Aid and Seafarers Medical, among others, including the lodging, travel, and meals.
Members ratified the contract on Friday, May 9 following 2 days of negotiations.
